It's Spring opening at our home track, Rum River BMX...Yeah!!!
We are SO very ready to head outdoors to do some great racing, but in order to so do there is much work to be done to get the track up and running for the next season of racing. We have been hard at work moving dirt, raking, and watering the track to get it prepped for the soil-tac (clear coat layer to make the dirt hard). We have also been busy hanging signs, dusting trophies, cleaning helmets and cleaning and more cleaning. Along with the other duties, the kids have been "packing down" the track with their bikes in between rakings and enjoying the "free" practice time on the new course. It has been a lot of fun to participate with the other BMX families and get our "hands dirty" in this initial start to outdoor racing...
Mark always seems to find the highest ladders to climb...;)
Lightning Lekson jumping every new table top available...
and Cautious Calli making her way around the newly designed course...
Oops...our evening of fun came to an abrupt ending when Calli and another rider collided!
As Calli made her way over a double another rider passed her and their handle bars tangled and they both went down...unfortunately, Calli went down harder! So intense that she sustained a FRACTURE to her left wrist and some road rash to her other wrist, nose and hip...:( I was so shocked to round the corner and find Calli standing there with Mark...I assumed when Mark came yelling for me I would find Caden. Our Cautious Calli was not who I would imagine to get the first major injury from BMX riding! We spent the rest of our evening in urgent care getting her left arm splinted and receiving directions for our next steps...an orthopedic consult and cast. Calli was SO brave tonight that I am proud to say she was indeed a "good sport" about this all!
Off to school with her "new" accessory...
We love you, Calli, and wish for a SPEEDY recovery!!!
